If you're
new to home automation, here are a few suggestions
to help you get started:
1) Organize! Take a good look
at your home, room by room, inside and out, and decide what you want
to automate. Would
it make sense to have the lights turn on and off at designated times,
dusk and dawn or just when you come and go? Would you like
the thermostat to set back automatically when nobody is home? Do
you want the bedroom shades to open when it's time to wake? Make
a list!
2) Choose your devices. Take your list and
decide exactly what devices you'll need. Table and floor
lamps require plug-in lamp modules but ceiling fixtures will require
a special wall switch. Appliance modules will be needed to power
on TVs and stereo systems. Motion sensors will help you track
arrivals and departures.
3) Choose your interface(s). Once
you've selected your devices, you'll need to install the appropriate
PC interface(s) so HomeSeer can 'talk' to these devices. Each
technology will require its own PC interface. Click the link
below for a complete list of technologies, devices and PC interfaces
that are
compatible with HomeSeer and don't hesitate to contact
us for assistance.
4) Configure HomeSeer software. After
the hardware is installed, the fun really begins! Go ahead...
experiment. Create
a lighting 'scene' that's just perfect for watching movies. Create
an event that turns off all the lights and sets the thermostat down
whenever you leave the house. Have HomeSeer turn the TV on
and tune to the sports channel every day after dinner. You
decide. The possibilities are endless!
