HomeTroller
From HomeSeer
The HomeTroller is essentially a hardware version of the HomeSeer HS2 software. The unit is a small form factor PC that runs the Windows XP Embedded operating system. This OS provides protection from unwanted writes to the OS by not allowing data to be saved to the system drive. This helps increase the reliability of the system since virus's and such cannot infect the system. The HomeTroller includes a special version of the HS2 software and supports all of the same features. The hardware includes 4 serial ports which allows it to support many types of automation hardware.
[edit] HSProtect
HSProtect is the system that protects the system drive from unwanted writes. When enabled, saves are allowed to the C drive, but the saves are stored in a hidden partition that overlays the actual C drive. If the system is rebooted, the data is lost. This allows software to be installed and tested, and if the changes are not wanted, the user may simply reboot the system. To make the changes permanent, you can right click on the HSProtect system tray icon and select the "Save Changes" option to save the changes. The changes are then saved when the system is restarted.
