HomeSeer Wiki Main Page

Welcome to the HomeSeer Wiki! We know that we have a very active userbase and we hope that all of you will help contribute to our Wiki. We often brag of the size of our forum, we would like to be able to brag about the size of our Wiki as well! You will notice many of the pages on this site will have very little content, that's because we need more people working on them! Feel free to jump in and contribute wherever possible. Remember, Wikipedia wasn't built in a day.

[edit] Guidelines

Please feel free to edit any page on our Wiki, even the pages we created. We care about the quality of the content, not who wrote it. If you think the HomeSeer page is need of help, fix it! If you are unsure of any change you or someone else made you can talk about it on the discussion page. We encourage third party developers to create pages for their plug-ins and place them in the appropriate categories.

For example add

[[category:Plug-ins]]
[[category:3rd Party Plug-ins]]

to 3rd party plug-in pages so that they are placed in the appropriate directories.

Of course, this is not the place to post spam or advertisements for competing software. This is a 'HomeSeer' Wiki, not a Home Automation Wiki.

[edit] Creating articles

The easiest way to create an article is to search for it. If it doesn't exist you are given the option of creating it. Try to use proper article names and place them in the appropriate category. Don't worry if you don't know what you are doing. Someone who does will likely fix it up.

[edit] Making Changes

Making changes to the pages on the wiki is easy. Simply click on the edit tab for any page. If you would like more information on editing and syntax please visit the editing page on mediawiki here:http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Editing

[edit] Stub Articles

You will notice many of the articles in this Wiki have been marked {{stub}} This means that there is significant work that needs to be done to that article. Your contributions are greatly appreciated. Feel free to leave the stub tag in until the article has reached an appreciable length.

[edit] Goals

We have many goals we would like to achieve with the wiki, here are just a few:

  • Extend the HomeSeer knowledge base
  • Provide an easy way for people to find the answers to questions that have already been resolved (as opposed to reading through 10+ pages of a thread on the forum)
  • Provide a new way for users to explore what our software can do
  • Promote our 3rd party developers
  • Provide an up-to-date listing of all scripting and plug-in functions

[edit] Terms of Use

By participating in the HomeSeer Wiki you agree to abide by the guidelines outlined above. HomeSeer will not be responsible for settling disputes. We encourage our users to discuss changes peacefully using the discussion pages for the appropriate pages.

All content written for the Wiki becomes property from HomeSeer. We may distribute part or all of the content with our products. By contributing to the wiki, you agree that HomeSeer may use the content you provided in any way. HomeSeer has the final word in regards to changes made to all pages.
