Talk:HomeSeer HS2
From HomeSeer
I think this page should be a major heading of its own, not a sub of Software. Although HS2 is a software product, it is THE product, which just happens to be built using software tools. I suspect that for most users it's the components - such as devices, events, plug-ins, and web pages - and their properties that come to represent the "thing" called HomeSeer. The fact that it exists entirely in software - at the functional level, at least - is a detail. --Uncle michael 10:14, 13 August 2007 (EDT)
[edit] Not so sure...
The whole wiki is about HomeSeer product related stuff. We have a "trouble shooter" section that applies pretty much just to HS2, and soon I expect we will have a "How To" section that also is HS2-centric.
I don't think of HomeSeer as a vendor of automation stuff including software. I think of them as a software solution provider who also sells some hardware to enable the software. User:TechnoCat
- I think we are not far apart. Because the HST product is essentially software, placing a discussion of its characteristics under the topic 'Software' seems at least redundant, but it also places central topics deep inside a menu tree when they would be more appropriate at the top.
- Maybe it would be better to label it "HomeSeer HS2: General" or something like that.
- The reason I raised the point is because I would like to see a discussion of topics such as Devices and Events. What are they, really and how do they work? I was looking for a logical place to put information like that and think a general HS topic is the best place.
- Do you have an alternative to suggest?

[edit] Categories for HomeSeer
Okay, I see your point. The reason I started the Trouble Shooting category was to aggregate trouble shooting stuff. Same with C-Sharp. A category called something like "Common Tasks" or "The Basics" might be a great place to put discussion on what "interfaces" are, how devices and events inter-relate, how to set up a timed event and so on. How about a top level page called, HomeSeer Basics? That would work for me. I'd just take everything that is on the current "HomeSeer HS2" under 'Software' and put it on the 'HomeSeer Basics' page. --Uncle michael 15:25, 13 August 2007 (EDT)
